Playing duets is a fun, musical way to learn how to play the trumpet. Celebrations was written as an educational method and progresses from simple, whole-note duets to advanced duets with complex rhythms, extended range, technical passages and lots of rhythmic and melodic independence.
The duets cover a wide variety of styles, harmonic structures, rhythmic devices, lengths and forms. There are swing duets, baroque duets, marches, atonal duets, polytonal duets, fanfares, songs, odd meter duets, canons, double tongue duets, Latin duets, laments and grounds. There are diatonic duets written in each of the twelve major keys. There are duets written on diminished scales, augmented scales and whole-tone scales. The duets at the beginning of the book are half a page long. Some of the duets near the end of the book are over three pages long. Theres a little something for everyone.
All of the duets are legitimate musical compositions, not exercises and not watered down arrangements of worn out songs. All of the duets, from the simplest to the most complex, were given serious compositional consideration. Each of them is a musical work first and a duet second. The educational aspect of the book is in its layout, not in its content.
