Barrie Lee Hall Brings Duke Ellington's 3rd Sacred Concert To Life
by Kelly Dean Published: May 16 2009

Trumpeter Barrie Lee Hall has his feet firmly planted in two areas----he is one of Houston's great local talents, yet he's also made his mark on the world at large as a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

Barrie Lee has focused his attention on one of Duke's rarely played pieces---the 3rd Sacred Concert.  With the able assistance of Robert Simpson (Houston Chamber Choir), Jan Taylor (Houston Ebony Opera Guild/Prarie View A&M), and such standout musicians as Paul English, Dennis Dotson, Shelley Carroll & Andre Hayward, the result is delicious blend of church music, jazz, choral & solo vocal performances.  It is inspiring to witness, and will not be repeated soon.
