At 105, Huey Long Finally Says Goodnight
by Andrew Lienhard Published: Jun 11 2009

We should all be so lucky to live to 105. Huey Long, the last original member of The Ink Spots, a centenarian who spent his final years holding court in the Houston Heights passed away Wednesday.

The quick-witted guitarist and singer was known for entertaining both customers and locals alike at the Venus Hair Salon on 19th Street where he sold photos, CD's, and an autobiography. A Sealy native, Long often preferred discussing his connections to jazz legends like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie than to the popular vocal group which made him famous. "That was just for the cash register", he would quip. He even sold a CD on which he was heard playing along side those immortal musicians. Two years ago, a small museum was built in his honor on 20th Street.

He will be missed by all who knew him.
