by Andrew Lienhard No I don't understand it, Yes it's true: Diana Krall is up for Album of the Year. Right up there with the Backstreet Boys and TLC. Wow. Last night I heard a VH1 commentator refer to her CD as the "dark horse" in the race. Yeah, but it's still COOL!! Jazz makes it debut in the big time! And Krall ain't no Kenny G: she can play. Kudos to NARAS and to Diana! In other news, there are Houston connections to several of the nominated albums. For best Jazz Album Russ Gunn used local Andre Hayward on trombone. Stefon Harris is up for best Jazz Solo on a track with Houston drummer Eric Harland. Once again gospel nods go to Houston singer Yolanda Adams. She was nominated last year too. I also heard that the group Destiny's Child is Houston-based. For more on this Join the Forum chat about it.
