by Mark Towns Trombonist Steve Turre, saxophonist Horace Alexander-Young, pianist Alva Nelson, Andre Carriere, and the Conrad Johnson Orchestra will headline the Millennium Jazz Extravaganza on Saturday January 29th at 7:30 p.m. at the Wortham Center Cullen Theater, located at 500 Texas Avenue in Houston Texas. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Conrad Johnson Music and Fine Arts Foundation, an organization founded to develop, preserve, and support music and the arts through educational and scholarship opportunities and by promoting jazz studies for youths in throughout the Houston area. Tickets range from $25 to $60 and are available at participating Fiesta stores. For more information, call 281.986.5004. It was learned late yesterday (1/27) that Hubert Laws, who was originally scheduled to play as part of this event, will be unable to attend.
