David Wheeler, age 41, died on Friday March 10, 2000 and was laid to rest on Monday March 13 at the Forest Park East Cemetery.

David was a professor of music in the San Jacinto Community College System. At one time he taught at all three of their campus'. His main gig was at San Jacinto South and San Jacinto Central teaching guitar classes and private lessons. David had both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of North Texas.

He was a clarinet player through out high school but always had the love for the guitar and pursued it until he was able to start doing gigs on it. His playing style was similar to Jim Hall. He had great control of his single line playing which always seemed to take a new musical turn, never too flashy but with concise and well thought out ideas. He was also quite capable of playing chordal style solos, this made him an excellent choice for trio work.

David will be missed by his students who were always coming out to hear him at Tommy's Patio Cafe. He will be missed as a musician and friend for all who knew him. He will be playing with all the great ones up above, I am sure.
