It's a subject I try to avoid around here---college. I've logged more time in universities than some doctors, but I've yet to finish anything! (I'll give the gory details someday). So, it warms my heart (and well, makes me a tad jealous) when a friend actually completes their undergraduate studies. Former UH classmate, saxophonist Rodney Glover sends this engraved invitation:

For those who do not know me, my name is Rodney Glover (saxophone). On this upcoming Saturday (April 1) at 2pm, I have the pleasure of giving my senior recital at the University of Houston (entrance 16 off of Cullen; in Dudley Recital Hall; Fine Arts building, not in Moores School of Music) before leaving Texas to pursue a master's in jazz performance at Western Michigan University.

Yes, the first part of the recital will be classical music, but I view classical music as more music and I gladly welcome the challenge.

The rest of the recital will be spent playing straight-ahead jazz. I will be assisted by Robert Boston- piano, Hamilton Loomis- bass, and Vernon Daniels on drums.

Some of you receiving this invitation may not know me, but chances are you have seen me sitting in the audience at your performances listening, learning, and definitely enjoying myself. I learned a lot that way and have taken tremendous strides in my own jazz development. The Houston jazz scene has been beautiful to me. I would consider it an absolute honor if you would attend my recital to see a product that YOU helped develop.

Thank you,

Rodney Glover
