Bubbha Thomas' new album "It's All About Style" is as good as it gets

HOUSTON, TX (10/23/00)...

Grammy-nominated drummer Bubbha Thomas’ new critically acclaimed Lightin’ Records Company album, “It’s All About Style,” is as good as a recording gets. Scheduled for release in early November, the CD not only features outstanding performances by Bubbha, but also by Horace A. Young, Kelly Dean, and Julie Johnson; performing stellar renditions of “Ashie,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” and “Famous Last Words” (Palabras Famosas).

Hands down, Bubbha has assembled a world class musical aggregation of Houston’s best talent. This album is more of a mixture of smooth Jazz, sophisticated-funk, Jazz-Mex, and a lesson in percussion dynamics and precision. The recording spotlights the “powerful” drumming style of Bubbha, and is abound with high caliber instrumentalist and finely tuned vocals.

Ten selections range from the simplest addition of an electric bass line played in a traditional Mexican style, to the gravel-raw scatting of the late Ben Turner. As always, Bubbha delivers classy work.

A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF BUBBHA THOMAS....

BUBBHA THOMAS .....A Texas Legend

Few drummers possess the powerful stroke, the emotion and the technical skill of Grammy Nominated Bubbha Thomas. An acknowledged organizer and developer of jazz education programming for children, his legendary 28-year career is highlighted with the release of his new album, “It’s All About Style.” On this recording, he expands his artistic talents and creative control even further as he produced many of the album’s tracks. In addition, he elevated his own celebrated drum magic to a greater level he hadn’t known he could reach.

Although Bubbha has accomplished quite a bit during his career, he continues to evolve. Not only does his new CD spotlight the “powerful” drumming style he has developed, but it also surrounds him with high caliber instrumentalist and finely tuned vocals. The album is said to have many pleasant surprises with "glow" written all over it.

Bubbha Thomas cut his professional drumming teeth playing with such legendary Texas jazz musicians as Don Wilkerson, Arnett Cobb, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson and David “Fathead” Newman. Bubbha is the only jazz artist to have recorded nine albums in the southwest. This past February, his album, "The Grissle" was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Contemporary Jazz Performance category.

Born in Houston, Texas in 1947, Bubbha has been enlightening music fans around the world from Amsterdam to Japan with his unique style of drumming. Over the past five years, his music has become increasingly popular with young people. Annually, more than 40,000 elementary school children across the state of Texas enjoy his music through his celebrated “Jazz & Poetry Series," and many teenagers in middle and high schools in the Houston area play his music through their stage band programs.

Bubbha heads up such nationally recognized children’s programs as the “Summer Jazz Workshop” and “Jazz & Poetry Series." The Workshop, as thirty seasons of accomplishment attest, helps teen age musicians develop critical thinking skills, and help many discover their keys to personal growth.
